Cosmopolitan, Hearst

Cosmopolitan’s editors have prioritized making fashion accessible and inclusive to its audience of 62 million, which means representing all people and all bodies. For its December 2020/January 2021 issue, the magazine featured actress Emma Roberts, marking the first time in the title’s 134 years that a visibly pregnant woman appeared on the cover. The title has pushed hard into livestream shopping and virtual shopping events—highlighting brands owned by Black, Indigenous and other people of color—and readers are voting with their dollars: Commerce sales have increased 514% in the past three years. —L.S.
