CBS on Monday announced that it has picked up the supernatural thriller Under the Dome for a second season, ordering 13 episodes to air in summer 2014.
Four episodes in and it’s clear that CBS has a rare summer drama hit on its hands with Under the Dome, a claustrophobic yarn about a small town that is hermetically sealed under what amounts to a gigantic impermeable snow globe. Now the only question is when the network will make the renewal official.
The second installment of CBS’ supernatural thriller Under the Dome suffocated the competition Monday night, stifling the premiere of NBC’s scripted series Siberia while keeping the struggling ABC drama Mistresses in check.
CBS on Monday drew a huge crowd with the premiere of its ambitious scripted series, Under the Dome, delivering 13.5 million total viewers and a staggering 3.3 in the adults 18-49 demo.
Monday night was all about transitions, as NBC put its top-rated drama series to rest for the summer, while ABC introduced its newest scripted effort.
With just six weeks to go before the 2012-13 broadcast season comes to a shuddering halt, one of the last remaining premieres has exploded on the launch pad.
