Y&R Units Come Together in Irvine

A year after lead client Lincoln Mercury set up shop at its new headquarters in Irvine, Calif., Young & Rubicam has moved all six units of its expanding Orange County contingent into one office in a commercial development known as the Irvine Spectrum.
A year ago, Y&R employed 35 people in Irvine. Today, there are 230 under one roof, most of them working on the Lincoln Mercury and Lincoln Mercury Dealer Association accounts, which account for 70 percent of the office's revenue. Some were brought in from the Detroit office, but the majority are local hires, said John Hirschboeck, president/managing director of Y&R/Wunderman Cato Johnson.
The Y&R companies at the Spectrum are interactive agency Brand Dialogue, public relations firm Burson-Marsteller, branding consultancy and design firm Landor, media buying company The Media Edge, marketing communications arm Wunderman Cato Johnson and Y&R Advertising.
Having the units together is in keeping with the Y&R credo, "Best alone. Better together," Hirschboeck said, and also jibes with Y&R's efforts to grow its billings from its existing client base, which also includes Taco Bell's field marketing business. --James Zolta
