Should we change the term sick day to entitlement day? As you can see from the chart, U.S. workers who call in sick usually aren’t physically ill, at least according to the human-resources managers polled by Harris Interactive for the 2004 CCH Unscheduled Absence Survey. (How they quantified the “entitlement mentality” bunch is a bit unclear, though, as they presumably don’t hear that particular excuse very often.) Overall, the absenteeism rate (defined as paid unscheduled-absence hours divided by paid productive hours) rose to 2.4
