Gone fishing? Not this summer. Nearly half of American executives plan to take fewer vacation days in 2003, according to a survey by Management Recruiters International. Forty-seven percent of the 730 executives surveyed said they will not use all their vacation time, and 58 percent cited job demands as the primary reason. The workaholics hope their extra desk time will exempt them from pink slips. “A lot of executives feel, ‘Well, I’m lucky to still have my job, so I want to make sure, if there is another round of layoffs, that I’m viewed as indispensable,’ ” says Allen Salikof of MRI.
