With the goal of becoming "the first great advertising agency in the Washington, D.C., area," E. James White Co. has hired Bill Puckett as senior vice president and executive creative director.
Before joining the Herndon, Va., agency, Puckett held the same title at Long Haymes Carr, which he left in February. He also held executive posts at two New York shops.
Agency president Matt White said Puckett would help diversify and expand the $50 million agency's account roster. He called Puckett a "workaholic" who "bring[s] irreverent humor and smart creative to the table."
At LHC in Winston-Salem, N.C., Puckett was a protƒgƒ of Jim White, now at Doe-Anderson in Louisville, Ky. Like his mentor, Puckett left a large agency for the opportunity to lead at a midsize shop.
"I don't have any qualms about how this [move] is perceived in the industry," Puckett said. "I wanted to go to some place that wasn't fully baked and build it."
The shop also hired Joe Dipreta, previously with BellSouth, as senior vice president of account management and strategy. He and Puckett are also partners.
"D.C. has not been known as an advertising town, but it's never really had the talent to make it one," White said. "We've got firepower now. You can't beat good creative and smart thinking."
