Tribal DDB, a New York-based i-shop and independent business unit of DDB Worldwide, has laid off 8 percent of its North American staff, or about 24 people.
According to a company spokeswoman, the move is meant to free Tribal DDB assets for future mergers and acquisitions, and the company is already in talks for at least one deal. "We're evaluating our current business to make it in line with the environment," she said. "Fortunately, we're in a good spot. We've had to make some tough decisions, but they are minimal."
Staffers were notified of the layoffs this week, with the cuts coming from across the company and across the continent. Tribal DDB currently employs nearly 300 people in North America and 500 worldwide. Clients include Anheuser-Busch, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Clorox.
