NEW YORK With Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban, Shrek 2 and The Day After Tomorrow hitting theaters over the past couple of weeks, movie sites are experiencing a surge in traffic.
About 600,000 unique visitors logged on to MovieTickets.com from home during the week ending May 30, up 66 percent from the previous week's 361,000. And week-over-week traffic to Fandango.com rose 22 percent from 578,000 to 706,000.
Meanwhile, Movies.com drew 508,000 unique visitors from home, and the Internet Movie Database attracted 2.1 million for the week ending May 30, up 10 percent and 7 percent, respectively.
"For highly anticipated blockbusters, online movie trailers and interactive content whet the appetites of fans," said Kaizad Gotla, Internet analyst at Nielsen/Netratings, a part of Adweek parent VNU.
