As much as Lord Dentsu & Partners wants a car account, it will have to clear its pursuit of the business with its half-owner Young & Rubicam, which handles Ford's Lincoln-Mercury business.
The still-born Amati business LD&P had last year was cleared because of Ford's part ownership of Mazda. LD&P chairman Dick Lord said, 'We have to be asked first, but yes, I think Audi would be a good fit for us given the team we put together to handle Amati.'
A Y&R executive said the agency had received a request from LD&P executives to resolve a possible conflict issue. Fallon McElligott, which recently lost its Porsche business is angling to pitch Audi, but may be hamstrung because of its affiliated agencies' - Scali, McCabe, Sloves and The Martin Agency - handling of Mercedes-Benz.
Fallon was shut out of the BMW review because of the conflict. But Scali will reportedly ask Mercedes for permission for Audi anyway.
