SEASON'S E-GREETINGS

Clients and friends on The Martin Agency's Christmas list are getting their greetings via e-mail this year. The Interpublic Group shop in Richmond, Va., is not playing Scrooge, however.

"We wanted to do something a little different this year," said art director Mark Brye, who, with copywriter Pat Mc-Kay, developed a series of animated videos called "Christmas Tips."

In each of the 60-second programs, stick figures engage in some variation of holiday hijinks, such as carolling, skiing, and over-eating. The visuals are followed by advice like "Be yourself."

Money saved on production and postage costs generated by the agency's extensive holiday card list is being donated to Homeward, a nonprofit organization serving western Virginia's homeless.

To produce the video snippets, Brye and McKay used a combination of Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, an editing program, to create what McKay described as an animated flip book.
