Sears Restructures; Moves Ahead in Review

CHICAGO - Sears, Roebuck & Co., as expected, consolidated its six separate divisions into three last week. Robert Mettler, former president and ceo of Robinson's Department Stores was elected president of the new Apparel Group, which is currently in review. Marvin Stern, vp/home improvement, was named president of a new Home Group. A new president of the Automotive Group will be named later. Currently, Ogilvy & Mather is defending its $20-million apparel business. Foote, Cone & Belding/Chicago; DDB Needham Chicago; W.B. Doner/Baltimore; New York agencies Young & Rubicam; Grey Advertising; Lintas: Worldwide; Lord Dentsu & Partners; and Wells Rich Greene BDDP are said to have received questionnaires last week. Mettler's addition adds a new twist to the review, which had been called by senior vp/marketing Matt Howard. A decision is expected in May.
