In a realignment of its Texas-based supermarket divisions, Safeway Inc. has eliminated D. Mark Prestidge?s positions as senior vice president of store operations, president of the Dallas unit and broadcast pitchman for Tom Thumb grocery stores.

Safeway acquired Tom Thumb with its purchase of Randall?s Food Markets in 1999.

“This move more closely aligns Tom Thumb with the operating structure of other divisions within Safeway,” the company said.

When he was named president of Tom Thumb in 1996, Prestidge became a local advertising fixture — and instant Dallas celebrity.
