ATLANTA The Republik said that it recently launched a summerlong campaign for the North Carolina Coalition for a Moratorium that proposes a temporary legislative halt to the state’s death penalty executions.

Durham, N.C.-based Republik said it was tapped following a review that included undisclosed agencies. The new campaign urges a two-year halt to executions in North Carolina, according to the shop. The measure was passed in the state Senate last session and is now pending before the House.

David Smith, creative director at The Republik, said that the focus of the campaign is educating the community. Efforts encourage a moratorium of the death penalty while alleged unfairness in the state’s justice system is addressed, Smith added.

“In this election year, the issue cut across party lines,” noted Smith. “Backers come from both parties, and 63 percent of North Carolinans said they would support this measure.”

The Republik’s campaign for NCMM includes radio, print and interactive advertising, according to the shop. Work is currently appearing in state newspapers and magazines and on radio stations.

Campaign spending was not disclosed.
