DALLAS R&D Thinktank has hired Tom Nynas as director of design from Richards Group affiliate RBMM, the agency said.

RBMM was founded in Dallas by advertising and design pioneer Stan Richards in 1978. In a shop with an average tenure of 22 years, Nynas worked at RBMM for eight years, the last two as principal.

With his move to R&DT, he joins a 4-year-old Dallas agency with 13 employees founded by creative principal Doug Rucker and account principal Jan Deatherage.

"We've been friendly for years and I just knew intuitively this was a perfect fit for all of us," Rucker said of Nynas.

R&DT clients include Medical City, Solana Business Center, Wingstop Restaurants, Cardinal Capital and Shaw Flooring.

Nynas, 36, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and The Creative Circus. His work has been featured in several publications and awards programs, and he has judged the Philadelphia Art Director's Club show. He also teaches typography at Texas A&M-Commerce.
