Ogilvy & Mather here has beefed up its planning department, naming Mark Thompson senior partner and director of account management.
Thompson most recently was at The Leap Partnership in Chicago, where he served as director of account planning until the agency cut several top executives and pared down some departments earlier this year [Adweek, March 30]. Prior to his stint at Leap, he worked at TBWA/Chiat Day's office in St. Louis, which closed last year. At O&M, he will report to managing partner Barbara Elmendorf, who continues to be in charge of brand stewardship at the agency.
Also joining the agency's planning department is Marcelle Saporta, who comes to O&M from DraftWorldwide here. Prior to that, she spent eight years at Foote, Cone & Belding in Chicago.
Over the past 18 months, O&M Chicago's planning department has grown from two to five people, including the two new members. Elmendorf said the agency is looking to hire two more staffers and will continue to build the department as a central part of the agency.
Meanwhile, O&M is set to break a TV spot this week for Sears, Roebuck & Co., promoting a contest linking the retailer with the new Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
The spot, breaking Aug. 7 on network and national cable, invites customers to visit Sears and enter the "Win and Be Wild" sweepstakes. The promotion runs from Aug. 2-15, and is also supported by Sunday newspaper inserts.
