The Hatch Awards, long considered the region's premier creative awards show, has a familiar challenger. After a brief hiatus, the New England Broadcasting Association will again stage the Best of Broadcasting show.
Honoring the region's top radio, television and now new media ads, the Best of Broadcasting show was staged each spring for 20 years.
Two years ago, however, after Adweek opted to no longer participate as a sponsor and NEBA was busy organizing its 50th anniversary bash, the show was suspended. Reports of its demise, it turns out, were greatly exaggerated.
The Rendon Group of Boston will produce the show in November and again in the spring. New sponsors include Boston Magazine and New England Cable News, which plans to broadcast all or part of the show.
The Boston Harbor Hotel will be where gold, silver and bronze awards are handed out in 23 categories.
A group of regional judges will serve as a screening panel, reviewing entries before sending finalists on to a national panel of judges.
"The encouraging thing was all of the agencies were enthusiastic," said NEBA executive director Ron Wayland. "The future looks very bright."
