CHICAGO National City is set to award its $40 million advertising account to Interpublic Group's Campbell Mithun, according to sources. The bank's previous agency was Campbell-Ewald.
The Minneapolis agency beat independent agency Blattner Brunner, Pittsburgh, for the business, according to sources. Agency executives at the shops either couldn't be reached or declined comment.
A National City representative declined to confirm the selection.
Campbell Mithun will handle all of the banks brand and retail marketing and advertising, including strategic planning, creative and media duties. Select Resources International in Santa Monica, Calif., handled the search.
Campbell-Ewald, an IPG agency based in Warren, Mich., had handled National City's account since 2003. Recent work had focused on the bank's points rewards program and free-checking initiative.
National City spent just over $40 million in measured media last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence.
