Southwest advertising figure Lyle Metzdorf, 66, died last week in a fire that broke out aboard his boat.
The cause of the early morning fire was still under investigation at press time.
Metzdorf was the founder of Houston-based Metzdorf Advertising, an agency that had 85 employees and more than $25 million in billings when it was sold in 1983 to IPG's Marschalk Co. in New York.
Metzdorf moved to New York as senior vice president of Marschalk. He also chaired the New York Art Directors 1989 awards show before returning to Houston, where he continued working with select clients.
He was best known for his folksy creative work on behalf of Blue Bell Ice Cream, a client he had worked for since 1963.
