IPG’s Lowe in New York has been dismissed by Verizon Communications, a client rep said. (Adweek online, Jan. 27) The agency’s hold on the account began eroding in October, when Verizon hired New York startup McGarry Bowen to handle corporate brand and image advertising. McGarry Bowen’s work now includes ads for business offerings and the Verizon Foundation, the telecom’s philanthropic arm. Verizon spent $165 million on ads in the first 10 months of 2002, according to CMR.
