DETROIT Michael Browner, executive director of media and marketing operations for General Motors, will retire effective April 1, according to GM.
Betsy Lazar, currently the automaker's general director of media operations, will assume Browner's media management responsibilities, GM said in a statement.
GM spent more than $2.2 billion on ads last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
Browner has served in various media and marketing management positions with GM since 1986. His 35-year advertising career included stints at various New York-based agencies. GM said Browner accepted a retirement option offered to many employees as part of an effort to reduce staff. He will now serve as a consultant with American Media, publisher of Star magazine and others, the company said.
Lazar joined GM in 1989 as manager of media operations and previously served as director of media planning on the Volkswagen/Audi account at DDB in Troy, Mich. She also spent five years at J. Walter Thompson in various media planning positions on several accounts, including Ford Motor Co.
Neither Browner nor Lazar could be immediately reached for comment.
