KSV Keeps Anti-Smoking Initiative

BOSTON Kelliher Samets Volk has been retained by the Vermont Department of Health's Tobacco Control Program to provide a range of marketing and communications services.

The assignment has been one of KSV's calling cards since it first won the business five years ago. Efforts have included mainstream and guerilla campaigns targeting virtually every demographic including teens, tweens, young adults and caregivers. (New work targeting young women and an assault on the tobacco industry's ties to Hollywood are in development.)

The account was awarded after a mandated review. The client considered four undisclosed agencies in addition to Burlington, Vt.-based KSV. Annual billings are estimated at $1-2 million.

The smoking rate among Vermont youth has dropped from more than 30 percent in 1999 to about 15 percent in 2005; the department is striving to cut smoking rates among all Vermonters by half by 2010, an agency representative said.

KSV is one of Northern New England's largest independent shops, employing more than 50 people at its offices in Burlington, Boston and New York.
