NEW YORK Global fragrance maker Chanel said Friday that it has signed actress Nicole Kidman to represent Chanel No. 5 in an upcoming marketing campaign. Financial terms were not released.
The French company said the Oscar-winning actress will star in a TV and print campaign, to be handled in-house under the direction of Jacques Helleu, artistic director for Chanel. Helleu has signed filmmaker Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom) "to conceive, direct and produce the campaign for Chanel," according to the company.
Kidman will be featured in all advertising for No. 5 on a global basis beginning in fall 2004. The actress was chosen "because she represents a unique standard of elegance and embodies the spirit and modernity of Chanel," the company said.
