NEW YORK Interpublic Group said it has redefined the role of Stephen Gatfield, a top lieutenant at the corporate level. Gatfield, who previously was executive vice president for global operations and innovation, has become evp of strategy and network operations.

Gatfield, 47, joined IPG in April 2004, a year after he left Publicis Groupe’s Leo Burnett. At Burnett, where he spent the bulk of his career, his last position was worldwide chief operating officer.

Gatfield this year has focused on sharpening the Asian market offerings of agencies such as Lowe and Foote Cone & Belding.
