NEW YORK — Leo Burnett’s digital, direct and database marketing unit, iLeo, has hired Riccardo Zane as senior vice president, general manager of its North American operations.

Zane, 40, comes from Burnett in Toronto, where he lead the shop’s interactive unit for about two years. There, he managed the integration of the shop’s interactive, direct marketing and data services capabilities. It could not be determined if his previous position would be filled.

In the newly created post, Zane will manage client relationships with iLeo’s account and creative leadership. He will also work with iLeo North America CEO Peter Steinhauser, to whom he will report, to drive the strategy of the newly formed Burnett unit. iLeo was formed in October when Publicis Groupe’s Burnett merged its digital, direct and database assets, including Chemistri and LB Customer Group [IQ Daily Briefing, Oct. 16].

“As we look at managing our relationships and our organization differently, we need someone to help oversee that,” said Steinhauser. “[Zane] will come in and help with our organizational strategy and client and staff responsibilities.”

iLeo North America has about 135 staffers working on such clients as U.S. Army, Walt Disney, Bank One and Procter & Gamble. Worldwide, iLeo has more than 400 employees.
