Einstein Named Leader of the WestLOS ANGELES—The American Advertising Federation has selected Cliff Einstein, chairman and CEO of Dailey & Associates in West Hollywood, Calif., as its 2002 Advertising Leader of the West. Created in 1992, the honor recognizes the work and careers of some of the West Coast's top executives. Past honorees include Jay Chiat, Jeff Goodby, Rich Silverstein, Hal Riney and Dan Wieden. The AAF and the Advertising Club of Los Angeles will honor Einstein at a luncheon Nov. 8 at the Four Seasons ballroom in Los Angeles. Bates Closes in IrvineLOS ANGELES—Bates USA West has closed, sources said. The Irvine, Calif., agency, which last year had $275 million in billings and roughly 150 employees, closed Oct. 18 with 20 staffers and no clients, sources said. Representatives for the Cordiant-owned shop did not return calls. The decision to shut the office follows the loss of the $330 million Hyundai Motor America corporate and dealer business. The only other clients, Pacific Sunwear and Aramark Uniform Services, left soon after. Suissa Miller Wins IomegaLOS ANGELES—Suissa Miller has won Iomega's account following a review that included 20 West Coast agencies, the client said. The Los Angeles shop will take on creative and media duties in 2003. Power Creative in Louisville, Ky., will stay on through the rest of 2002. Iomega spent more than $10 million on ads last year and $3 million through July of 2002, per CMR. Richards Breaks First Woodbridge AdsDALLAS—The Richards Group this week breaks a $10 million campaign for Robert Mondavi's Woodbridge wine, focusing on the label's versatility. One 30-second spot for the Oakville, Calif.-based client uses a split-screen effect. On one side, a man enters a surprise party where revelers are drinking Woodbridge. On the other side, a man is surprised by a seductive woman who has wine waiting for him. Onscreen copy "Welcome" on the left and "Do not disturb" on the right is separated by a picture of a bottle and the word "Bridge." The campaign includes another 30-second spot and two 15-second spots on national cable, as well as print, radio and interactive ads. Newswire RoundupChar-Broil shifted its $10 million business to Euro RSCG Tatham Partners in Chicago. The Columbus, Ga., company formerly worked with Publicis in Mid America in Chicago, which is closing and consolidating with Publicis in New York. Char-Broil already works with Euro RSCG Tyee MCM, the network's Portland, Ore.-based direct response TV arm. ... Raytheon hired Via in Portland, Maine, to create and place a global image campaign to debut early next year. Via won the account following a review of undisclosed shops. Raytheon spent about $5 million on ads in 2001, per CMR. Parker Stephens, Costa Mesa, Calif., retains product advertising. ... The operations of Spencer Proffer's Morling Manor Music and Media have been folded into entertainment content marketing company Mandalay Branded Entertainment, with Proffer joining the West Hollywood, Calif., company as evp.
