California Lottery Meets With Finalists
LOS ANGELES—The California Lottery is holding finalist presentations this week in the review for its five-year, $125 million account, sources said. Finalists include the incumbent, Grey, as well as DDB and McCann-Erickson, all in Los Angeles, and Foote, Cone & Belding in San Francisco. A decision is expected by the end of July.
Mattel Hears Pitches for Creative Accounts
LOS ANGELES—Mattel hears pitches this week for creative on its boys and entertainment, Fisher-Price licensed entertainment and global coordination accounts, worth $50 million-plus in billings, sources said. Ogilvy & Mather, Culver City, Calif., will pitch boys toys on Monday, Fisher-Price on Tuesday and global business on Wednesday, sources said. McCann-Erickson in San Francisco will pitch all three accounts on those days. Young & Rubicam, Irvine, Calif., will pitch boys toys and Fisher-Price on Tuesday and Wednesday; Foote, Cone & Belding, New York, will pitch Fisher-Price on Wednesday, sources said. A decision by the El Segundo, Calif., client is due by late August.
IHOP Selects McCann-Erickson for Creative
LOS ANGELES—IHOP Corp. selected McCann-Erickson for creative duties on its $30 million account, sources said. The Los Angeles shop bested Young & Rubicam in Irvine, Calif., and Venables, Bell & Partners in San Francisco in a review led by Atlanta-based consultant Gregg Nettleton. A representative for IHOP in Glendale, Calif., confirmed it has selected an agency but declined further comment.
Nestlé Taps Brann for Beverage Unit
BOSTON—Nestlé hired Brann Worldwide in San Francisco for marketing chores for its beverage division, the agency said. Work is expected to include relationship marketing and customer management for brands such as Juicy Juice, but it could expand beyond beverages, sources said. Billings are estimated at $7-10 million.
Pizza Hut Ends Relationship With Wieden
NEW YORK—Wieden + Kennedy is off the Pizza Hut roster after only four months, a client rep confirmed. The move comes six weeks after a Wieden TV spot for the Dallas-based client's Insider pizza was pulled after airing for just a week. It was replaced with a spot from Pizza Hut's longtime lead agency, BBDO New York. The $140 million account has been at BBDO since 1987.
Coors Brewing Co. in Golden, Colo., has hired Bromley Communications for an estimated $10-20 million Coors Light creative assignment targeting Mexican American consumers. Bromley in San Antonio, Texas, bested crosstown rival Cartel Creativo and Publicis Sanchez & Levitan of Dallas. ... The Orange County Register is considering finalists Foote, Cone & Belding in Irvine, Calif., and Perceive in Long Beach, Calif., to handle its account, sources said. Colby & Partners in Santa Monica, Calif., was the incumbent. ... Emirates Airlines will hear final presentations on its estimated $4 million account at the end of July, sources said. Finalists include Leagas Delaney in New York and San Francisco and Mad Dogs & Englishmen in New York.
