Suntory Water Narrows Agency Search

ATLANTA—Suntory Water Group has cut its agency search to four shops. Cole Henderson Drake, Creaxion, Match and Fletcher Martin Ewing, all in Atlanta, presented creative assignments to the client last week. Incumbent Fricks/Firestone in Atlanta did not participate. A decision is expected in late January. Billings for Suntory are undisclosed. Sources said work in 2002, which would be limited to strategic planning and creative for the Crystal Springs brand, would likely increase when media buying responsibilities are added in 2003. Suntory is headquartered in Atlanta.

BBDO Unveils Promotions Division

ATLANTA—BBDO has launched a promotions division here. The unit, Spin Promotion Marketing, is headed by Maribeth Molina in Atlanta and Susan Chittum in Los Angeles. Spin, according to BBDO Atlanta chief executive officer Chris Hall, is designed to extend client media buys by generating television and radio mentions of localized events, contests, give-aways and merchandising. "Bringing this service in-house allows us to build on our traditional campaigns, with promotions tied directly to clients' objectives," said Hall.

Cox Business Services Assigns Account

CHICAGO—Periscope has won Cox Business Services'$10 million advertising account following a review. The unit of Atlanta-based Cox Communications provides telecommunications, cable and Internet services to businesses in Cox's 22 markets. The Minneapolis agency's first work is expected in March.

Gearon Adds Seagram's Creative Duties

BOSTON—Gearon Hoffman has picked up additional creative chores from Seagram Spirits & Wine Group, a longtime client. The Boston shop will work on Seagram's coolers, mixers and ginger ales, creative for which had most recently been handled by DeVito/Verdi of New York. Spending has been $2-3 million in recent years, but that budget is expected to climb significantly as Gearon, already a Seagram roster agency, prepares multimedia campaigns set to break as soon as next month. Carat in New York handles media planning and buying.

ATLANTA—Trone Atlanta has recruited David Paprocki as associate creative director. Previously, Paprocki held an art director's position at Weiss Stagliano Partners in New York, where he worked on the Bass and Guinness Beers, HotJobs.com and Raleigh Bikes accounts ... Abovo Marketing Group in Atlanta has hired Rich Jeffers as director of public relations. Jeffers will direct public relations strategy, positioning and messaging for the tech shop's business-to-business clients ... Print veteran Mary Evans Carlton has joined The Buntin Group as vice president and director of print production. Also joining the Nashville, Tenn., shop is copywriter Cindy Rutherford Thomsen ... David Dasenbrock has arrived at Archer>Malmo as senior vice president of media operations. Before joining the Memphis, Tenn., agency, Dasenbrock served as general manager of the Dallas office of Bozell Kamstra.
