2 Consultants Vie for Michelin's $35 Mil. Review

NEW YORK—Two consultancies remain in the running to handle Michelin's $35 million review: Richard Roth Associates in Chappaqua, N.Y., and Jones Lundin Beals, Chicago and New York, sources said. A selection is expected this week which will trigger the start of a much-anticipated agency search [Adweek, Feb. 26]. Neither consultancy could be reached for comment.

Verizon Taps Deutsch for $30-50 Mil. SuperPages Work

DALLAS—Verizon Information Services has selected Deutsch to handle a $30-50 million assignment which includes SuperPages brand phone directory and SuperPages.com. The New York agency will handle ad duties in partnership with ethnic marketing shop Casanova Pendrill Publicidad in Irving, Texas. Deutsch beat Temerlin McClain, also in Irving, The Richards Group in Dallas, and Tierney Communications in Philadelphia in a three-month review for the Irving-based client.

Colby Effler Wins $25-30 Mil. Bally Business

LOS ANGELES—Colby Effler & Partners has been tapped by Bally Fitness Center to help pump up the client's membership ranks. The agency won the business after a five-month review of unnamed shops. The budget was undisclosed; sources placed it at $25-30 million. Initiative Media in Chicago will continue to handle media buying. Most recently, the fitness chain produced work in-house.

Lowe Group Bundles Direct, Interactive

NEW YORK—The Lowe Group is rolling its direct marketing and interactive divisions into a single independent unit that will operate in a half-dozen markets worldwide, sources said. The agency network also has hired an executive with direct marketing experience to run it, said sources. Previously, those functions were part of Lowe Lintas & Partners. Lowe Group could not be reached.

Atkins Puts $15 Mil. Account in Review

NEW YORK—Atkins Nutritionals is looking for an agency to handle its estimated $15 million account, sources said. The New York-based client made a name for itself about two years ago with its low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet.

Lowe Executive Jumps to Interpublic Shop

NEW YORK—A former Lowe Lintas & Partners executive has found a new home with the Interpublic Group. Scott Grayson, an svp, group creative director, joined McCann-Erickson in New York earlier this month as group cd on Sprint and Marriott Hotels. His departure follows that of Lowe executive Kevin McKeon, who joined Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York as ecd [Adweek, Feb. 19]; and Richard Monturo, who took a top planning post at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., in January.

Three agencies are making final pitches this week on the estimated $5 million account for The Sporting News, sources said. DiMassimo Brand Advertising, Avrett Free Ginsberg and DeVito/Verdi, all in New York, are vying for creative and media planning duties on the sports publication. The paper is owned by Vulcan Ventures, which is owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
