Summers Chosen to Lead Jay in Georgia
ATLANTA--Officials with Jay Advertising in Rochester, N.Y., said last week they will establish an office here and hire Bob Summers as creative director. He previously held the same post at McCann-Erickson in Atlanta, which recently merged into Fitzgerald & Co. when that shop was acquired by the Interpublic Group of Cos. IPG also owns Jay. Summers will assist on creative projects with other Jay offices, notably its Tampa, Fla., unit, as well as seek new business opportunities for the Atlanta operation. High on his priority list will be working on the Buick and Abbey Carpet accounts. "This is a great opportunity for me," said Summers. "We can offer people brand intelligence with retail reflexes."

RJR Taps Long Haymes for 'Big Tobacco' Ads
ATLANTA--Long Haymes Carr in Winston-Salem, N.C., agency of record for R.J. Reynolds' Winston brand, has been asked by RJR to "do some brainstorming" for Big Tobacco in response to the tobacco legislation developed in the Senate Commerce Committee, said a client official. RJR would not reveal details about LHC's concepts, adding that the other major tobacco firms would have to sign off on the ads. BSMG Worldwide in Washington, D.C., was enlisted last year to create print and TV advertising on behalf of RJR and its colleagues.

ConAgra Bypasses Atlanta, Names Philly Shop
ATLANTA--ConAgra Poultry Co. awarded a consumer and trade branding project for its Country Pride fresh chicken to Domus, a five-year-old agency in Philadelphia. Bob Salegna, vice president of sales and marketing for the Duluth, Ga.-based client, had a prior relationship with Domus staffers. Salegna characterized Domus as "a Rolodex agency," with senior management individuals who outsource typical agency services. Grey Outshines S.E. Agencies for U.S. Mint
ATLANTA--The United States Mint, part of the Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C., assigned a 10-year project to Grey Advertising in New York, according to a U.S. Mint memo obtained by Adweek. Known as "The Fifty States Circulating Commemorative Quarter Program," the project's annual budget is estimated at $5-8 million. Sources said three other finalists included W.B. Doner in Baltimore and MDB Communications in Washington. The program will issue coins honoring all 50 states.

ATLANTA--At the Advertising Club of the Palm Beaches, Fla., Addy awards, the most gold was mined by Wilesmith & Delgigante Advertising & Design with 15 and Venue Advertising with 11. Gravics earned best of show/electronic; Kravis Center won best of show/print.
