Gart Narrows Both of Its Reviews
CHICAGO--Gart Sports Co., Denver, narrowed its separate media buying and broadcast creative reviews to finalists last week, company officials said. Contenders for the $8-10 million media buying account are Carat ICG and Media That Works, both Los Angeles. Contenders for the broadcast project are Leo Burnett, Chicago, and Fogarty Klein & Partners, Houston. Meetings will be held at the end of February, with a decision expected in early March.
Starcom Lines Up Canon
CHICAGO--Canon USA, Lake Success, N.Y., is expected to award its $125 million media buying account to Starcom Media Services in Chicago, sources said. Creative will remain split between DCA Advertising and Grey Advertising, both New York. Starcom parent Leo Burnett and DCA parent Dentsu Advertising of Japan are in negotiations that would give Dentsu a minority stake in Burnett.
Wine Market Council Decants Bozell Campaign
CHICAGO--A $1.3 million campaign from the Wine Market Council from Bozell Worldwide's Chicago office breaks in spot markets this week under the theme, "Wine. What are you saving it for?" TV, radio, outdoor and point-of-sale materials suggest wine is a fine beverage for average days.
GDR Picks Up Minneapolis Newspaper's Media
CHICAGO--The Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper awarded its $1-2 million media planning and buying account to hometown agency Gabriel Diericks Razidlo after a review that also included crosstown shops Haworth Marketing Communications and Bencini & Sandstrom. GDR has handled creative projects for the paper; Fallon McElligott is its lead creative shop.
L/C Breaks Ward's Work
CHICAGO--The first TV spot for Montgomery Ward
& Co. from Laughlin/Constable, Chicago and Milwaukee, broke last week under the tag, "You can't shop smarter than Ward's." L/C picked up the broadcast creative account after the retailer split with DDB Needham here.
