"OgilvyOne Sells Sears Online
CHICAGO-Sears, Roebuck & Co. announced last week it would begin selling more than 2,000 large appliances through its Web site, www.sears.com. OgilvyOne, New York, will handle marketing for the site, an official with the Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based retailer said.
"Encyclopedia Britannica Narrows Search
CHICAGO-Encyclopedia Britannica here has narrowed its agency search to three general agencies and two interactive shops, said James Kennedy, vice president of consumer and brand marketing. The finalists are in Chicago and New York, but Kennedy declined to name them. EB is expected to spend up to $40 million as it repositions its brand and works to drive consumers to its Web site. A decision is expected by month's end.
"Deutsch Drops Out of Budget Review
NEW YORK-Deutsch here has exited the review for Budget Group's $40 million account just two weeks before final presentations, sources said. Deutsch's exit came a week after Leo Burnett in Chicago dropped out. The remaining finalists are incumbent Publicis & Hal Riney, Chicago, GSD&M, Austin, Texas, Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, and Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis.
"Doner Picks Up a Pair of New Accounts
DETROIT-Doner, Southfield, Mich., has picked up two new pieces of business. The agency bested The Richards Group, Dallas, and Avrett, Free & Ginsberg, New York, for a $2 million assignment from The Mills Corp. The Arlington, Va.-based real estate investment trust assigned new properties in Charlotte, N.C., and Houston. Doner's Canadian unit also added the $2 million account of Thrifty's XX XY retail chain.
"CME Gets Wells Fargo Yellow Pages
CHICAGO-Campbell Mithun Esty in Minneapolis was awarded creative and media buying duties on Wells Fargo's Yellow Pages account after a review. The business was previously at Wahlstrom & Co., Santa Ana, Calif. Billings were undisclosed. Wells Fargo, which recently merged with Norwest Corp., recently awarded its consolidated $40 million ad account to DDB Los Angeles.
"Y&R's Jim Beam Bar Expands
CHICAGO-Young & Rubicam here has picked up an estimated $5-10 million in additional assignments from Jim Beam Brands Worldwide. Y&R, which earlier this year was named lead agency for the Jim Beam Bourbon global business, will handle Beam's Small Batch Bourbons, DeKuyper Cordials and Geyser Peak and Canyon Road brand wines. Campaigns are expected this fall.
"Bozell Kamstra Gets New General Manager
CHICAGO-Bozell Kamstra named Bill Coontz general manager of its Minneapolis office and Katherine Johnson director of client service. Coontz succeeds Dean Buresh, who continues as president of the $225 million agency network.
