Thrifty Car Rental Chooses 6 Semifinalists
NEW YORK--Thrifty Car Rental in Tulsa, Okla., selected six semifinalists in the review for its $10 million account, according to the client. Marketing vice president Tom DeNardin said last week a list of 12 shops was narrowed to: The Richards Group, Dallas; Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas; Bernstein-Rein Advertising, Kansas City, Mo.; Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich.; Yesawich, Pepperdine & Brown, Orlando, Fla.; and Cliff Freeman and Partners in New York. Credentials meetings will occur this week, followed by another cut. A decision is expected in mid-September.
Square One Makes Finals in Kahlœa Review
DALLAS--Allied Domecq of Southfield, Mich., has selected three shops for final presentations later this month in the $12 million review for its Kahlœa liqueur. Making the cut from an original list of seven contenders were incumbent Lois/EJL and BBDO, both Chicago, and Square One, Dallas, according to client vice president and director of communications Ross Fleckenstein. A decision is expected in September.
Promus Hotel Decision Expected This Week
DALLAS--The field of shops pitching the $40 million account of Promus Hotel Corp. was reduced again last week when Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston withdrew. DDB Needham Dallas; Arnold Communications, Boston; TBWA Chiat/Day, New York; and Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, remain in contention. Sources believe client marketing officials will award the account as early as this week, despite last week's announcement that Promus chairman and chief executive Raymond Schultz and president and chief operating officer Richard Kelleher are leaving the company.
Procter & Gamble Shifts Affect Bromley
NEW YORK--Procter & Gamble has reassigned Hispanic creative duties for several brands and named agencies to create Latino advertising for ThermaCare and Dryel, two new products. ThermaCare, a heat wrap, will be handled by Bromley, Aguilar & Associates, San Antonio, and Dryel, a home dry-cleaning agent, was assigned to Leo Burnett Hispanic, Chicago, a client representative said. Bromley, Aguilar loses its responsibilities for Pringles, Bounty and Pepto-Bismol, but retains a total of 14 P&G brands. The changes take effect Jan. 1. Billings were not disclosed. Other P&G shops affected by the shift were Conill Advertising, Fova and JMCP Publicidad, all New York.
DART Receives 20-Plus Agency Responses
DALLAS--Dallas Area Rapid Transit had been contacted by more than 20 local shops prior to last Friday's deadline for bid responses involving its two-year, $3 million ad contract, according to client advertising manager Micah Causey. Not competing is Dallas incumbent Knape, whose contract with DART expires Sept. 30. DART officials will select three to five finalists for presentations in early September.
