Fogarty Acknowledges Merger Discussions
DALLAS--Rich Klein, principal of Fogarty Klein & Partners in Houston, confirmed last week his shop has met with at least three agencies, including Lois/USA, New York, to discuss the possibility of a merger. He would not say when the meetings took place nor provide other details, citing confidentiality agreements. "We've said we would have to do it on our terms and that's turned a lot of people off," Klein said. "We're not rushing to the altar." The agency posted 1996 billings of $147 million.
Temerlin McClain Makes Kaiser Short List
LOS ANGELES--Kaiser Permanante, Oakland, Calif., has narrowed the list of contenders for its $30 million corporate image assignment to Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, and Grey Advertising and Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, both New York. Final presentations are scheduled for the first week of January, and a client representative said a winner will be declared soon after.
PageNet Nears New Agency Selection
DALLAS--Plano, Texas-based PageNet said last week it is close to naming a new agency. One-year incumbent J. Walter Thompson, Chicago, resigned the account two weeks ago, saying the client had not expanded its VoiceNow technology nationally as expected. PageNet representative Scott Baradell said the firm has met with undisclosed shops about handling ad duties and may announce a partnership this week. The account was valued at $10-15 million when JWT acquired it, but spending through August 1997 was $1.5 million, per Competitive Media Reporting.
Dallas Burn Forms Hispanic Marketing Unit
DALLAS--The Dallas Burn last week created a Hispanic marketing department within its Major League Soccer franchise. The unit will develop public relations, broadcasting, marketing, advertising and community relations programs for the Hispanic market in North Texas. Heading the unit will be Andy Swift, who was promoted to director of Hispanic marketing and community development.
Almost Live, Selah Share Old America Chores
DALLAS--Old America Stores in Howe, Texas, has awarded broadcast creative assignments to Almost Live in Dallas and media buying duties to Selah Associates, also in Dallas. Old America operates more than 75 arts and crafts stores nationwide. Billings were undisclosed.
Anderson, Dublin Forge Business Alliance
DALLAS--Anderson Advertising and Dublin & Associates, both San Antonio, formed an affiliation. There will be no shared ownership between Anderson and Dublin, a public relations outfit, but the two firms will provide complementary services to each other's clients as well as develop new business in tandem.
