Hill, Hollday Adds FleetBoston Design

BOSTON--FleetBoston Financial has moved its design and promotions account to Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos from Arnold's soon-to-close Cipriani Kremer design unit. Cipriani president/creative director Vic Cevoli has also joined Hill, Holliday as evp/design director.

The shift between Boston rivals was somewhat expected. Hill, Holliday already counts FleetBoston's advertising account as its largest single piece of business; the client spent $90 million on ads last year and agency executives have said that figure will be up significantly in 2001.

The design and promotions work--estimated by sources to be worth an additional $5-10 million annually--moves to Hill, Holliday without a review.

Arnold this summer announced the closing of 18-person Cipriani Kremer by year's end, as well as the dissolution of the relationship with FleetBoston, which would have posed a conflict with new Arnold client Fidelity Investments. Fidelity last month moved its estimated $50-60 million mutual funds/retirement services account to Arnold from Hill, Holliday. The latter's growing work for FleetBoston had been cited as an increasing conflict for Fidelity.

Cevoli will head the design department of Interpublic Group's Hill, Holliday in concert with svp Kelly Fallon. Cevoli worked for Hill, Holliday in the 1990s on clients such as John Hancock Financial Services and Lotus Development.
