Robb High, former chief operating officer at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, has joined Young & Rubicam as marketing director, North America, a new post.

High, 55, is expected to foster integration and contribute to new-business development. He will work closely with Craig Middleton, chief marketing officer for Y&R Group, and Ron Bess, CEO of Y&R New York, and reports to worldwide CEO Mike Dolan.

High, who has also worked at Y&R sister shop Mar steller Advertising, said of the new role, "It's an opportunity to make a difference at a place I know something about."

The shop confirmed that new-business development is part of High's job, but said that Dolan, who is also CEO of Y&R Group, will continue to steer that effort. Sources said High was hired specific ally to cultivate new business. The agency's last director of business development, Pat Doyle, left in Jan uary.

Y&R was a finalist in the Internal Revenue Service's $80-100 million review, which was won by Foote, Cone & Belding in New York.

High spent eight years at Kirshenbaum, starting in 1993 as managing director and leaving last year after helping to start spinoff operations such as The Media Kitchen. He was COO from 1995-2000. During his ten ure at the New York shop, billings grew from about $140 million to more than $400 million.

Before Kirshenbaum, High was managing director of the former Lord-Dentsu, New York, working on clients such as Dannon and Hitachi. He began his career on the cli ent side, holding brand-management jobs at Procter & Gamble and Quaker Oats.
