Doremus Picks Sherman for N.Y. Role

NEW YORK Howard Sherman, former president and chief operating officer of Interpublic Group's Howard Merrell & Partners, has joined Omnicom Group's Doremus in the role of managing director, a new post, the agency confirmed today.

Sherman's arrival comes nearly a month after chief strategic officer and vice chairman Jeff DeJoseph abruptly left.

Sherman, 48, will manage day-to-day operations of Doremus' $250 million New York office. He starts today and reports to chief executive Carl Anderson. "We're really excited because of his background and his pedigree," Anderson said.

Before Howard Merrell, where he spent 1 1/2 years, Sherman was an evp at New York shop Shepardson, Stern + Kaminsky. In the 1990s, he was president of IPG's Angotti, Thomas, Hedge, a New York shop known for its work for Foster's beer and Saab.

DeJoseph left Doremus several weeks ago but his exit was unrelated to Sherman's arrival, Anderson said. In fact, Anderson began his search in February and talks with Sherman "got serious" in May.
