NEW YORK Deutsch said it has hired Stephen Murphy as vice president of customer and data strategy.

In the new post, Murphy, 40, will focus on clients like MCI, Novartis, Snapple, Revlon and Almay. The role was created to strengthen the New York agency’s data strategy capabilities as more clients request those services, the shop said. He will report to Paula Fedoris, svp, director of customer and data strategy.

There are about 15 people in Deutsch’s customer and data strategy group.
