WASHINGTON, D.C. President Bush today selected Carlos Gutierrez, chairman and chief executive of Kellogg, to be Secretary of Commerce.

If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Gutierrez, who has been Kellogg’s CEO since April 1999, would succeed Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, who announced his resignation shortly after the Nov. 2 election.

At a special meeting, Kellogg’s board of directors accepted Gutierrez’ resignation effective upon his confirmation and swearing in to office. The Kellogg board then elected James Jenness as CEO and chairman, also subject to Gutierrez’ confirmation.
