Swid Powell, a New York-based tableware maker that commissions famous artists and designers to create tableware patterns, turned to Wieden & Kennedy/Portland for its first-ever ad campaign. Like the gentleman shown here, who holds a plate just perfect for ‘native foods,’ the other print ads in the series attempt to break the mold in the tabletop category. One features politician Tip O’Neill holding a pattern called Flip Flop, ‘suitable for both liberal and conservative parties;’ another shows football pro Lawrence Taylor, holding Grid, ‘capable of dropping you in your tracks.’
