Beleaguered Internet company BigStar Entertainment has quietly abandoned the online retail portion of its business, no longer selling videos and DVDs but still offering entertainment news and a movie-information archive, like rivals IMDB.com and IFILM.

BigStar had offered 45,000 videos and DVDs for sale at its site via third-party affiliates. But customers trying to order items now are receiving e-mail notifications from the company explaining that e-tail is just too tough a business at which to make money.
