A consortium of consumer groups filed suit against AstraZeneca last week, alleging misleading and deceptive advertising for its next- generation stomach medication, Nexium, which the suit claims is no more effective than its predecessor, Prilosec. The suit was filed in U.S. Superior Court in Los Angeles by the AFL-CIO, the Congress of California Seniors and the California Alliance of Retired Americans. The company spent $235 million on ads for Nexium last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
