What better way to get consumers to obsess about your product than to have them focus on it as a featured element in an art contest with a top prize of $8,000?

DaimlerChrysler has announced the winners of its "Motion Through Art" competition, which was aimed at African American consumers. Don Coleman Advertising, Southfield, Mich., handled promotional print ads and other details of the contest.

Contestants were challenged to create original two-dimensional artwork "that embodies the positive style and passion of African-American life, while featuring the Chrysler PT Cruiser."

The winning entries were chosen from among more than 300 submissions. A panel consisting of an art gallery employee, an art collector, a vehicle designer, community leaders and DaimlerChrysler representatives judged the entries.

The winning entries will be featured in a commemorative 2001 wall calendar. In addition, top winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Detroit to attend a reception in their honor.
