First, the year-over-year rate of growth for national advertising took a marked plunge to 4.8 percent, when compared to the pace set in the June period (23.2 percent). In each case, the ’97 quarter is compared to its counterpart in ’96. Through the first nine months of the year, the industry expanded by more than 12 percent and could easily show a double-digit growth rate for the year as a whole.
