NEW YORK America Online has partnered with Upromise, a customer-loyalty and college-savings program, to double the money contributed to members’ college funds when they shop at participating merchants.

Through an online process, AOL members can register information about their favorite credit cards, supermarket savings cards or preferred shopping programs. After that, when they make a purchase at contributing companies, including most major grocery and drugstores, Exxon and Mobil locations and McDonald’s restaurants, a portion of the total price is placed into their Upromise savings account and those savings are doubled by AOL.
