The United States Tennis Association has served up a review of its $2-3 million business that could leave incumbent shop Grybauskas Beatrice on the sideline.
Participants include Lowe & Partners/SMS, Margeotes/Fertitta + Partners, and The Lord Group, all in New York. At press time, Grybauskas was mulling whether to defend, sources said.
The USTA in October tapped Jack Fitzgibbons, formerly retail sales director at NFL Properties, as its new director of advertising and promotion. The client's main goal is to build its existing membership base of 520,000 via direct response and other advertising. Its agency would also craft work for the U.S. Open.
The challengers offer some sports experience: Lowe's client roster used to include Major League Baseball, while The Lord Group works for retailer The Sports Authority. Margeotes crafts ads for NFL Sunday Ticket, a satellite game package which includes all regular season Sunday afternoon telecasts.
The USTA hopes to complete its review by March. --Sloane Lucas
