ARIZONA Tieken Design & Creative Services, Phoenix, has designed three newsstand magazines: Ritz-Carlton Magazine, Tycoon and Millionaire. AlpernLehman, Scottsdale, has added four new clients: National Data Corp., CompuDiagnostics and Faith House, all in Phoenix; and Doheny Eye Centers in Los Angeles. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA Interactive8, a New York-based interactive ad agency, has moved its San Francisco office downtown. The new office is located at 78 First St., between Market and Mission. 800.com selected Brodeuer Porter Novelli as its public relations agency. Brodeuer's Silicon Valley office will develop a strategic consumer and industry ad campaign to promote 800.com as the Internet retailer focused on consumer electronics. JDA Advertising, San Francisco, has acquired The Hurst Group, a $15 million Salt Lake City agency. Hurst has provided advertising services to leading technology clients including 3Com, Evans & Sutherland and Novell. The acquisition complements JDA's aggressive growth plan, which has recently included the establishment of an Internet marketing unit in Seattle and an office in Cambridge, Mass. MetaSound Systems, a provider of digital audio solutions for use in marketing, chose Battenberg, Fillhardt & Wright, San Jose, to handle its integrated marketing campaign. The agency will direct the San Jose-based company's creative and media efforts. Brain Surgery Advertising, San Francisco, was awarded project work by Internet support startup Brigade Solutions and by Ericsson Business Communications. OREGON Obie Media Corp., Eugene, recently won a bid for transit ad services for the Tri-County Metropolitan Transit District of Oregon (Tri-Met). Darius Whitten has opened Whitten Design, a creative advertising design studio in Bend. The Oregon native has 25 years of experience in the ad industry, and operated his own graphic design studio in Portland a decade ago. The new shop will help clients with marketing communications, account planning, creative services and project management. Rich Distributing, Portland, chose Charlton Engel Marketing as its agency. The Portland shop will design magazine ads and product labels and create an e-commerce Web site and promotional literature. Creative Co., a Salem-based marketing communication agency, was selected to design the packaging for Tec Laboratories' new homeopathic entry in the head lice relief category, LiceFreee! Lice Killing Hair Gel. Red Lion Hotels & Inns, an affiliated brand of Promus Hotel Corp., has kept its advertising and public relations services at R/H/A/S, Portland. R/H/A/S and its sister divisions--marketing research unit Image Analysis and Internet marketing group RHAS dot com--will help Promus relaunch the Red Lion brand. Leopold Ketel & Partners, Portland, recently launched a strategic branding campaign for Bidwell & Co., a regional discount stock brokerage company. The campaign is comprised of a series of bold print ads showcasing the company's advantages over large, impersonal online brokerages. Amy Spreadborough is account manager and Jerry Ketel is creative director on the account. Integrated marketing communications firm Koopman Ostbo, Portland, recently completed a cross-promotional Web site for natural beverage maker Hansen's Natural and the Worldwide Wrestling Federation. Prideaux Group, Portland, was named agency for local development project Westover Condominiums. The agency will produce advertising and collateral materials for Westover. Meridel Prideaux, president of the agency, will handle the account. Portland-based CBS Promotions Group becomes Infinity Promotions Group, effective immediately. Established two years ago, Infinity focuses on localizing national and brand programs within markets and accounts. Its client roster includes Ericsson Mobile Phones, Nextel Communications and AirTouch. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles, has won the media portion of Boulder, Colo.-based Bcandid's advertising account. The client develops Internet chat software. New York-based Lowe & Partners/SMS won the creative portion of the account, estimated to be worth $5-10 million. Single Source Marketing added Aqcess Technologies of Santa Ana to its client roster. The Costa Mesa agency was selected after a review of several undisclosed agencies. Third Eye, San Diego, was retained by the Green Cancer Center at Scripps Clinic, also in San Diego. Canon Software Publishing selected Haynes Group as its official package design firm earlier this year. Since then, the Newport Beach design firm has developed a new packaging identity for the company. On behalf of the Los Angeles Department of Aging and Santa Monica-based Wise Senior Services, Ortego Design Group in Pasadena launched the first installment of the city's "Stop Senior Abuse" campaign. Stage two of the campaign, being released in early fall, deals with specific types of abuse. Beard Boy Productions, Laguna Hills, recently completed work on a 30-second TV spot for TH&M Advertising and Tustin Ranch Golf Club of Tustin. It also produced other spots for Fahrenheit Advertising and Fashion Fair; Donahue Schriber and Hemet Valley Mall; and Diversified Marketing Concepts and Stonewood Center. Upcoming broadcast projects include radio work for Norms Restaurants and TV scripting for Blue Cross of California and Tustin Market Place. Eric Schwartzman has formed Schwartzman & Associates, Santa Monica, specializing in public relations. Townsend & O'Leary was selected as public relations counsel for Litronic, a developer of Internet security applications. The Irvine agency will provide public relations counsel, media relations services and overall account management planning. The Sutherland Agency, San Diego, was selected by Cypros Pharmaceutical, Carlsbad, to create a new brand image and print campaign for its Ethamolin product. Pacific Communications was named agency for Health Research Network, a Southern California clinical trial researcher. The Costa Mesa shop was selected after a review of undisclosed contenders. Pacific will develop a brand identity and ad campaign for HRN. Design-Express.com, a subsidiary of Lazar Industries, selected The Rabuck Agency, Los Angeles, to bolster its dot-com marketing efforts. AppOnline.com, a Internet-based mortgage banking company, tapped Los Angeles-based Benenson & Janson Advertising as its agency. A TV and print campaign is due in the fall. Billings were undisclosed. Century Direct, Santa Monica, launched a new direct response TV and radio campaign for The Los Angeles Times' Sunday edition. Three spots began airing this summer. This is the second such campaign Century Direct has produced for the Times in three years. California Portland Cement Co. appointed Dameron Communications as its community and public relations counsel. The San Bernardino agency has provided the same services for CPC's Colton Plant for the last three years. Smith Public Relations, Century City, was selected to implement public relations programs for seven new clients: Global Learning Systems, EnvironmentalAlert.com, Playboy.com, Sierra Systems Consultants, Smartees, Spike Networks and TechExcel. Hogan Communications, a Burbank-based entertainment media and marketing company specializing in college and youth markets, is beginning a series of corporate-sponsored first-run motion picture screenings on college campuses nationwide. WASHINGTON Hornall Anderson Design Works, Seattle, completed a corporate identity program for Bothell-based NextRx. Horton Lantz Marocco has updated its logo and moved into new office space in Seattle. Its new Web site (www.hlm.com) features information on capabilities, client case studies and creative culture.
