TEXASThe Dallas Advertising League released a partial list of judges for its 1997 Tops Awards show, scheduled for Feb. 7. Among the judges will be Scott Armstrong of Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore.; Rob Schapiro of The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.; Joey Cummings of The Joey Co., New York; and Hector Fernandez of BBDO, Mexico City. The event is the local level of the American Advertising Federation's Addy Awards. The show's deadline for entries has been extended to Jan. 5.Cartel Creativo, San Antonio, picked up regional marketing duties for Religious Communities Alive in South Texas. Cartel will handle research, strategic planning, creative development and media placement. The win, combined with other recent acquisitions from clients including Labatt USA, has led the agency to establish a New York outpost.Obie Media, Eugene, Ore., was chosen to provide transit advertising services in Austin. The four-year agreement with the city's Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority allows Obie to sell advertising displays on nearly 300 buses.Former MBRK Advertising & Public Relations executive Sheryl Lilly and former Town East Mall marketing director Helaine Wolf have formed Secret Services in Dallas. The new entity develops customer programs for companies in the service industry.Evans Advertising & Public Relations appointed Katy Barrilleaux director of account management, a newly created post at the Dallas shop.Espidotcom, Dallas, was selected to handle Web site development for Dallas Can! Academy. The site, to be designed in a magazine format, will be located at www.dallascan.org and is expected to launch during the first quarter of 1998.The Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers, the Texas Motor Speedway and Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie have joined forces to form the Sports Entertainment Advisory Team (SEAT). The group was founded to drive attendance for each venue's events by marketing the members as a single entity. SEAT has launched a holiday promotion offering a package of tickets to several events.Churchill Group and Churchill Advertising Group, Houston, acquired Ford Advertising & Public Relations, also Houston. The move expands Churchill Group, a public relations and investor relations firm, to a 24-person operation and 1997 net fee income of more than $2 million and Churchill Advertising Group to a staff of 10 professionals and billings of $9 million. Rosemary Ford, founder and president of FA&PR, will join Churchill Group as senior vice president and senior counselor. She will also be a principal and member of the operations committee.May & Co., Dallas, recently had two pieces selected for inclusion in Communication Arts' 38th annual design annual. The award is named for University of Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles. TCG began working on the show in 1996.NEW MEXICOSanta Ana Pueblo selected Rick Johnson & Co. of Albuquerque to direct the marketing, advertising, public relations and special events for the Santa Ana Star Casino located just outside of Bernalillo. The agency plans to market the casino as an entertainment destination.OKLAHOMAMargaret Butler of Butler & Butler, Tulsa, was named Advocate Board Member of the Year by the Tulsa Advocates for the Rights of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities. The award recognizes Butler's involvement with nonprofit groups for more than six years.Littlefield Marketing & Advertising, Tulsa, was named the first agency for Willbros, a Tulsa-based pipeline construction company. The agency's work will include strategic planning and the development of print advertising and collateral materials. Littlefield earned the account after a review of other area shops.
