Ad Veteran Edler Dies

Richard Edler, a veteran adman who held leadership roles at three major agencies during his 35-year career, died Feb. 16 after suffering a heart attack. He was 58.

Over the course of his career, Edler served as president or managing director of Southern California shops Doyle Dane Bernbach (now DDB), McCann-Erickson and Foote, Cone & Belding.

Most recently, he ran his own consulting practice, R.B. Edler & Co.

A resident of Palos Verdes Estates for the past 20 years, Edler was a member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies and held several positions with the organization, including chairman of the Southern California Council, chairman of the Western Region and member of the National Board.
