7 Advance in Eight O'Clock Coffee Review

NEW YORK Seven New York shops have advanced in Eight O'Clock Coffee's search for a lead agency to handle its estimated $7 million ad account, sources said on Friday.

Sources identified the contenders as independent Bouchez Kent + Co., Interpublic Group's Gotham and Avrett Free & Ginsberg, Omnicom Group's DDB, Havas' Euro RSCG MVBMS Partners, Publicis Groupe's The Kaplan Thaler Group and MDC's Margeotes|Fertitta + Partners. The agencies either declined comment or could not be reached.

Client executives will start visiting the shops next week. Based on those chemistry and credentials meetings, Eight O'Clock will select three finalists to pitch the business, said sources. The Montvale, N.J., client hopes to hire an agency by the end of May.

The review is being managed by New York consultancy Roth Associates, which did not return calls.
