LOS ANGELES-Pinnacle West Capital Corp., an energy and real estate development company based in Phoenix, AZ, has narrowed its search for a creative agency to 12 West coast shops. The account is estimated at just under $4 million.

Semi-finalists include California agencies: Adlhoch Creative, DDB, and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in Los Angeles; Bates USA West in Irvine; Clear Ink in Walnut Creek; GMO Hill/Holliday and Hoffman/Lewis in San Francisco; The Miller Group in Santa Monica; and Robert Chandler & Partners in Marina del Rey. Also in the running are Phoenix agencies E.B. Lane, R&R Partners and Riester-Robb.

More than fifty shops responded to the request for proposals. Michael Marsak, president of Effective Marketing Strategies in Marina del Rey, Calif, is leading the review.

Initial meetings are taking place this Thursday and Friday at Pinnacle West in Phoenix. A cut to six shops is expected next week; the client plans to select an agency in early September.

Young Associates in Phoenix had handled the account for less than two years. The agency did not participate in the review [Adweek, May 21].

Media is expected to remain with Media Buying Services in Phoenix.
